CAF U-17 Championship cancelled


The 2021 Total Africa U-17 Cup of Nations which was to be staged in Morocco this month, has been cancelled by the the Confederation of African Football with immediate effect.

The Emergency Committee of the continent’s highest football governing body, held a meeting and arrived at a consensus that the competition should be cancelled due to the recent rise in the coronavirus pandemic.

The 14th edition of the CAF U-17 Championship was to be staged in four cities of Morocco  namely, Rabat, Mohammédia, Cassablanca etc from 13-31 March this year but has been halted with a new date likely to communicated soon.
However, this was going to be the first time this tourney was going to consist of 12 countries instead of the usual 8 with the top four teams representing the continent at the World stage in Peru later this year, a competition which has also been abrogated..
The Black Starlets are missing out on their second successive tournament after suffering a group stage elimination in the WAFU U-17 competition which was played in Togo early this year having failed to qualify for the 2019 edition in Tanzania.
