There are many responsibilities that leaders will need to undertake for the very entities they are part of. However, responsibilities may differ for each leader in different institutions. So, for example, Spiritual leaders like Pastors will be much concerned about “winning souls” while Business leaders will be much more concerned about obtaining and maintaining new clients to increase profits. Though both the spiritual leader and the business individual are leaders, there may be some differences in their roles and responsibilities which is expected from each one of them. However, there are some responsibilities that transcend all the various forms of leadership. For the purpose of this lesson, we will touch on three of the common responsibilities of every effective leader.

There are three significant responsibilities of every effective leader. First is that leaders are responsible for creating the right climate or environment within their entities. The second is bringing on board the right people and placing them in the position of their strengths (that includes developing them). And thirdly, is in the creation of the right strategies for achieving the short- and long-term vision of their entities.

Leaders are responsible for creating the right climate or environment within their entities.

Creating the right kind of climate is the first responsibility of every effective leader. Leaders who create the right kind of environment for their entities bring about certain benefits and added advantages to their organization. Three of the benefits of the right leadership climate are that; the latter two responsibilities can be carried out effectively if the right climate is created by leaders. Secondly, leaders who create the right climate for their people at the end of the day help their entities to grow. This is due to the fact that their people are much more in a comfortable environment to maximize their potential. And by maximizing their potential, productivity increases which means that the final result of growth is achieved. Thirdly, the right environment makes effective succession possible. The right climate will attract and maintain many potential leaders who in turn (through mentorship and training), can replace current leaders and perform very well in their new roles hence, growing the very entities they are part of.

The second responsibility of effective leaders is in bringing on board the right people and placing them in the position of their strengths (that includes developing them). For a great leader with a great Team are always a formidable combination. After bringing on board the right people, leaders will need to understand the strengths of each teammates and put each one of them in the position of their strength. Because a teammate out of position is likely not to perform at their maximum best.

Thirdly, effective leaders are responsible for the creation of the right strategies for achieving the short- and long-term vision of their entities. If leaders are able to create the right climate within their entities and also bring on board the right people and placing them in the positions of their strengths, then both the short and long term strategies created by the leaders will become highly achievable because of the great climate and great teams they have around them.
