The word empower comes from the prefix ‘en-‘ meaning ‘in, into‘ and the root ‘power’ meaning ‘ability, strength, might’.
Since empowerment has to do with people, putting together the prefix “en” and “power” together, we get this definition for empowerment; “To empower simply refers to the ability to give someone more confidence and or strength to do something, often by enabling them inwardly to increase their control over their own life or situation”.
Throughout history, the leaders with much influence were those who were able to empower their people in order for a particular purpose, vision or cause to be attained.

The ability to empower others is one of the keys to a leader’s success in working through others to have the vision or purpose of an entity to be attained.
Empowering others in not only in the big acts like giving an inspirational speech to inspire others with more confidence and or strength to do something great but also, empowering others can even come in simple everyday acts such as entrusting your spouse to make a crucial decision or delegating a challenging job to an employee and giving that employee authority to get the job done.

Also, empowering others provides you additional freedom, as well as promotes the growth and health of your organization. Likewise, empowering others makes it possible for effective succession plan to take place in the long term.
Leadership is all about the ability to influence others in order to work through them so that the vision and purpose of your entity will be attained. However, we can only influence and work through others effectively when we empower them.
