H.E Nana Akufo-Addo elected Chair of ECOWAS


President Akufo-Addo has been elected as the new Chair of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) at the 57th Ordinary Session of the Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government, a post by the Ministry of Information has confirmed.

The President was elected to the new position at the on-going 57th ECOWAS Summit, which is being held in Niamey, Niger. The Summit is said to focus on discussing matters about the global pandemic (Covid-19) among the West African States, the political impasse surrounding Mali, and the adoption of a common currency for West Africa (the ECOWAS Single Currency Programme).

The venue for the Summit is the Mahatma Gandhi International Conference Centre. Also, the Heads of States would be considering reports from the 44th Ordinary Session of the Mediation and Security Council at the Ministerial level and the 84th ordinary session of the Ecowas Council of Ministers, which was held before this session.
