Mr Kweku Baako wins lawsuit against Kennedy Agyapong


The High Court has ruled in favour of the Editor in Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Mr Abdul Kweku Baako concerning a suit filed at the court against Mr Kennedy Agyapong. Mr Kweku Baako had filed a defamatory lawsuit against the Member of Parliament for Assin Central on the merit of some words targeted at him.

The High court on Friday, the 26th of June 2020 extended a ruling at the case, which went in favour of Mr Kweku Baako. The court has also ordered Mr Kennedy Agyapong to retract and apologize for his conduct three times using the same avenues he resorted to defame Mr Kweku Baako. Further, the court has set damage of GHS 100,000.00 with the cost of GHS 30,000.00, which is required to be paid by the Assin Central Member of Parliament.

Following the verdict of the High Court, Mr Kweku Baako has acknowledged that he is happy he proceeded to the High Court to defend his integrity against the defamatory statements made by the Assin Central MP against him.



In October 2018, Mr Kweku Baako sued Mr Kennedy Agyapong for defamation and sought reliefs, which included GHS 25 million in damages. Mr Kweku Baako in a statement of claim released on the 18th of July 2018 emphasized that Mr Kennedy Agyapong had resorted to various media platforms – Net 2 TV, Oman FM, Asempa FM and Adom FM to extend certain statements against him which he considered as being defamatory.

Additionally, Mr Kweku Baako prayed the High Court to order Mr Kennedy Agyapong to apologize for his conduct and retract the statements made against him, which included restraining ‘Mr. Agyapong, his agents, assigns and servants from further publishing any defamatory words against him’.
