Nigeria international Frank Onyeka has officially joined new English Premier League club Brentford FC.
The 23-year-old midfielder has been snapped up by the Bees from Danish side FC Midtjylland and he becomes the first signing for the club ahead of the new season.
Brentford, who won promotion from the English Championship to the Premier League during the 2020/21 season, released the following statement on their official website:
“Brentford have completed the signing of Nigeria international midfield player Frank Onyeka, subject to an international clearance,” a club statement read.
“A work permit for the 23-year-old was received at the weekend and he has completed a medical. Frank will join from FC Midtjylland, where Brentford owner Matthew Benham has the majority shareholding, for an undisclosed fee and has signed a five-year contract.
“He arrived in the UK yesterday [Monday], July 19, and will now undergo a period of quarantine before joining with the squad for training.”
Onyeka was nurtured in the Midtjylland academy and he went on to help the first team win two Danish Superliga titles and the Danish Cup.
The promising player received his first call-up for Nigeria in September 2020 for the friendly matches against Algeria and Tunisia in Austria on 5 and 9 October 2020, respectively.
He made his debut for the Super Eagles in a friendly 1-0 loss to Algeria on 9 October 2020.
