The Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation has pushed back the deadline for re-registering SIM cards across the country to July 31, 2022.

Originally, the exercise was set to expire on March 31, 2022.
The Ministry indicated in a statement issued by sector Minister Ursula Owusu on Tuesday that it has taken note of the issues that have plagued the process since it began in October last year.

“As of March 17th, 14,091,542 SIM Cards had been connected to the Ghana Card, 10,348,532 Bio-Captures had been performed, and 99,445 New SIMS had been registered.” The deadline for completing the registration of the remaining active SIM cards cannot be fulfilled due to a variety of circumstances, including the fact that over 7.5 million citizens and residents have not to get Ghana Cards to enable them to register their SIM cards.”

According to the Ministry, based on the aforementioned issues, residents require additional time to comply with the directive, which is why the deadline for mandatory registration has been extended.

“It will take more time to update the SIM Registration App for diplomat registration, and a Self-Service SIM Registration App is being created to make SIM card registration easier for Ghanaians living overseas.” By the middle of April, this will be functioning.

According to the announcement, “the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation has consequently extended the deadline for the registration of Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) cards until July 31, 2022.”
