Speaker of Parliament calls for COVID-19 tests on members of Parliament.


The Parliament House of Ghana resumed sitting on Tuesday, the 19th of May 2020 after the house had gone on recess. In a welcome address, the Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Quaye has directed all members and staff of Parliament to undergo tests for COVID-19.

The direction from Professor Mike Quaye throws assurance on the part of the Speaker to pursue all measures necessary to ensure Members of the house and staff are protected. He continued to reinstate that in addition to observing protocols extended by WHO and the State, he’s directed the house’s medical personnel and clerk to immediately carry out COVID- 19 tests on all members and staff of the Parliament house.

Even before Parliament went on recess, 15 persons of the house underwent mandatory quarantine after returning to the country from official duties abroad. They include ten members of Parliament and five parliamentary staff.

The Speaker concluded by stressing on the unavailability of an immediate vaccine for the pandemic. He implored the house to observe all protocols as the world awaits a remedy to the epidemic. He also commended the efforts and contributions of persons in frontline duties, working extremely to cap down the spread and treatment of affected patients.
