THE FOUNDATION OF LEADERSHIP BY FRANCIS ABBAH

“Almost everything that a leader does will require some level of trust from his or her people. For at its core, trust is the foundation of leadership.” – Francis Abbah

Leadership is complex in its own nature. And part of the complexities of leadership has to do with the people being led and the kind of leader an individual is.

Trust then, becomes the glue that binds leaders and their people together. Without trust, leadership is highly impossible. Almost everything that a leader does will require some level of trust from his or her people. For at its core, trust is the foundation of leadership.

Throughout history, in every scenario and instances where people gave out their best to their leaders and to the just cause that their leaders stood for even to the point of death, there was always an evidence of trust that the people had in their leaders.

Building of trust in leadership and in any other relationships can be likened to climbing a lengthy stair case. For trust is built one step at a time and with consistency of words, actions, reactions and choices.

On the other hand, the breaking of trust can be likened to the breaking of a glass bottle. We may decide to fix the broken pieces together, however once broken, mending the pieces together will still not result in the glass bottle to be transformed back to its original state.

From communication to vision casting to empowering others through to the many other responsibilities of a leader, trust has always been the foundation of them all.

To lead people effectively and gain their total commitments, make sure that you have built and continue to build trust between you and the people being led.
