“It matters on which kind of values we live our lives by because, values influence every aspect of our lives” – Francis Abbah
The values of an entity are found in what the people within that entity do more than just from their words. For action, speaks more about the deeply ingrained values that we uphold dear to us, more than our words or from what we say are our values.
Values are formed from our beliefs, convictions and from what we deeply value that results in the actions and decisions we undertake within each circumstance that present themselves.
Values on a personal level are formed in many ways. Since our beliefs, convictions and what we deeply value are all internal, majority of them were learnt from external sources- mostly from people who had influence on our lives- examples being parents, teachers, couches, corporate leaders, friends, mentors and sometimes even strangers.
It matters on which kind of values we live our lives by because, values influence every aspect of our lives: moral judgements, responses to others, how we spend our time, as well as commitments to personal and organizational goals.
Exemplary leaders live out the right values. For every value that leaders live by ultimately sends out strong messages and signals to their people and sometimes, to external parties who may not necessarily be part of the very entities that the leaders are part of. To have the right influence over others, leaders will need to live out the right values on a consistent basis.
Living out right values on a consistent basis, as a leader or an individual, is what creates the right organizational culture that will inspire others towards the fulfillment of the vision and purposes of the very entities we are part of.
